Under election law, voter registration closes 28 days before an election and opens again two days after the election.  This allows time for the voter files to be prepared for the election.

For the registrar nearest you, call the Will County Clerk's Voter Registration Department at 815-740-4620.

Change Your Address?

If you are currently registered to vote in Will County and have moved within Will County, you must change your voter registration by one of the following procedures:  (1)  complete the back side of your voter registration card and send it into the County Clerk's Office or (2) complete the change of address form and mail it to the County Clerk's Office. Changes of address must be in the County Clerk's office no later than 28 days before an election.  Changes of address must be postmarked by the 28th day before an election.

If you are currently registered to vote in Will County and have moved outside of Will County, you must re-register with the election authority in your new county.

Will I Still Be Able to Vote if I Move and Don't Change my Address?

If you move within 28 days of an election in the same precinct, you can vote a full ballot at your same polling place after signing an affidavit.

If you move within 30 days before the election outside your precinct, but still in the State, you can vote a full ballot at your old polling place after signing an affidavit.

If you move more than 30 days before the election within the county, under the National Voter Registration Act you can vote during federal elections in your old precinct for Federal offices only, after completing a fail safe affidavit.  You cannot vote in an odd year election.

If you move more than 30 days before the election out of your county, you cannot vote.

Changed Your Name?

If you change your name, you must re-register to vote.  A woman who continues to use her maiden name after marriage may vote without having to complete an affidavit if registered under her maiden name.

If you change your name within 28 days before an election, you may vote in that election at your previously registered polling place by completing an affidavit.
